“Marriage” brought forward: How we drastically reduce commissioning time at the customer site
Normally, everything comes together at the customer’s site: the injection molding machine, injection mold, part handling system, and special-purpose automation are integrated at the customer’s plant — and only then do they operate together for the first time.
Normally, this phase is time-consuming and costly. All disciplines need to be coordinated. Under significant time pressure, initial issues are resolved and open points are worked through.
Normally, the complex process validation and production release procedures only begin at this stage.
For us, the challenges begin where “normally” ends.
We have moved this critical step forward for our customer: a successful iVAT (Integrated Factory Acceptance Test) was carried out on AWM’s shop floor.
To achieve this, we fully integrated the complete production system at our facility before shipment:
- Injection molding cells
- Injection molds
- Robotic part removal and handling systems
- Inspection and palletizing cell
The measurable benefits for our end customer:
- Drastically reduced commissioning time: Production ramp-up at the customer’s site is significantly accelerated.
- Full debugging in advance: Software and mechanical systems are already fine-tuned and tested under production-like conditions before shipment — rather than on site.
- Reliable pre-validation: Sample production is already running stably before the system is transported to the customer.
- Minimized project risk: Issues are identified and resolved long before the production line leaves our facility.
